Do you have blocks that y'all've already sewn only aren't certain what to exercise with? Did you know you tin can import photos or scans of the blocks into EQ and play with them to help you determine what to practise? Follow forth with the lesson and submit your version of the quilt right on the web log with a link up. If you lot have a blog, make sure to add your site besides. The first step is to get images of all the blocks.
If you are scanning your blocks try to use 72 or 75 dpi.
If y'all are taking photos of your blocks attempt to make certain the blocks are laying flat, and then there are no shadows on the block.

I am using the blocks from Jenny'southward BlockBase Sew Along. I love the blocks she fabricated and she did a smashing job sewing them! If you would similar to work with these blocks besides, you can download them here. (Or again, experience free to use blocks of your own if you would like to!)

You tin can see that our first block needs straightened and cropped. In the downloaded files it is called, "block1336_Uncropped".

Let'southward get started!

  1. Open EQ8
  2. Click on Image Worktable
  3. Click Import Image
  4. Navigate to your block image and select information technology.
  5. Click Open
  6. Click the Rotate button
  7. Click Straighten and draw a line from one edge of your block to the other.
  8. Click Apply Straighten
    Whoa! Wait at that! Your block is straight!
  9. At present, click the Crop button. Drag the crop line in. Be sure to besides take the seam assart into business relationship. If your blocks is square, make sure the ingather is square. Mine says 8.121 x 8.121. The fact that it's not a "nice" number or non the size of your sewn block  is ok. We volition take care of that in a minute. If your cake is non square, then make sure it is the correct ratio.
  10. Click Apply Crop.
  11. Now click Resize Image
  12. Type in the size of your bodily sewn block. Mine is 10 x ten.
  13. Click Add to Projection Sketchbook
    If y'all oasis't named your project yet, EQ8 volition prompt you to do so. (To be saved, your detail needs to be in the Sketchbook AND your project needs to be named. Here is more information.)Repeat for as many blocks as y'all would like. (All of the other blocks from the downloaded files are rotated, cropped and set up to go.)
  14. At present click Quilt Worktable > Custom Set up
  15. I clicked the LAYOUT tab and fabricated my center 25 x 25 because I know that works for my blocks. Of course, you can get in whatever you want. And of grade this can exist changed later.TIP: Check Maintain existing block sizes when resizing layout if you do non desire the content of layers resized when resizing your quilt. For example, if this choice is unchecked, a 10″ x ten″ photo will calibration down in size when the quilt is changed to a smaller size, keeping the contents proportional.
  16. Click the DESIGN tab > Photo Tools > Set Photo
  17. Click on a block and drag information technology to the quilt. Information technology will automatically be the size y'all made it on the Prototype Worktable!
  18. Use the Arrange tool to move the blocks around the quilt.

    Merely then I wanted to see what it would look like with some infinite between the blocks and then I used a manifestly cake to add sashing. You can see how to practise this here.
    Now let'south try something besides Custom Set.
    Always be certain to click Add to Projection Sketchbook for any quilt you want to keep before starting something new.
  19. Click New Quilt > Horizontal
  20. Click the LAYOUT tab
  21. Brand your quilt iv Horizontal x i Vertical with a sashing of ane inch. (This is what works with my number of blocks but feel costless to practice a different number.)
  22. I fabricated my blocks x 10 10 simply y'all can make them the size of your actual sewn blocks.
  23. Click the BORDERS tab
    First Border – Fashion: Long Horizontal with ane inch on Height and Bottom, 0 on Left and Correct
    Second Border – Fashion: Blocks edge 5 inches on Peak and Bottom, 0 on Left and Correct with 9 blocks in the border
    Tertiary Edge – Mode: Long Horizontal with 1 inch on all sides
  24. Click the DESIGN tab > Photograph tools > Set Photo
  25. Now when y'all place a photo in the quilt the photo will change to the size of the foursquare you put it in. So if I were to put one of my 10 inch blocks in a 5 inch infinite, it would resize to v inches. If you already have your blocks made, y'all don't desire this to happen then be enlightened of that!
  26. Add to Project Sketchbook
  27. If you lot want to mail images of your quilts, hither is how to export the images.
  28. To post your image click to comment on this postal service. Fill in your info and then click Browse.  Go to: Documents\My EQ8\Images
